Ask a question, decide how far it may reach, and choose where the answer lands.
The chat panel sits beside your notes. ⌘⌥B / Ctrl+Alt+B shows and hides it.
It is not a separate product with a copy of your vault. The assistant runs on your machine, in your vault, and can read and write the files you are looking at.
Every question carries a scope — how much of the vault it may look at.
| Scope | What it sees |
|---|---|
| Note | The note you have open |
| Folder | That folder and what is under it |
| Vault | Everything |
Scope is a cost and a precision control at once. A question about one meeting does not need to read four thousand files, and an answer drawn from the whole vault is slower and vaguer than one drawn from the right folder.
An answer can land in three places:
Send another message while an answer is being written and the assistant stops and takes the new one. It does not queue behind an answer that is already going the wrong way. Esc stops the current turn outright.
Whatever your subscription costs. Mindex adds nothing and holds no key of its own — see Connect an assistant.
