The settings dialog has its own search. Typing what you want is usually faster than remembering which of the four groups it is in — and the command palette reaches settings pages too.
Per-vault settings are in .mindex/settings.json inside the vault. Settings
that belong to the installation — theme, zoom, the recent vault list, which
assistant is active — stay with the app.
